Animal Stories
Animal Stories is a 1953 book that was published by Margery Williams who has first made Velveteen Rabbit. It was first published and focused on many tales and stories about animals. It was made into an animated television series called Animal Tales that at first aired on PBS and Nickelodeon from 1982 to 1986.
Plot
The book opened with a young man named Gretchen Hall, announcing to the readers that they are about to witness something stunning in tales about animals.
- The pig who wished to fly: a young pig wishes to fly at the expense of his father and mother. While trying to fly, he falls. But he tries again, and this time he flies. However, he doesn’t know how to get back down again, but may just land safely….. in some hay.
- The frog who conquered the world: a frog drinks, a strange potion when his parents go out and soon as able to fly, going on a quest around the world. However, he doesn’t know how to get back down again, like the pig. after surviving a wild rainstorm, he managed to find elephant rack, which turns into a real elephant as it falls on it. He returns home with the elephant as his come back from the night.
- Sylvester and the magic pebble: a young donkey named Sylvester live with his parents. After getting in trouble for breaking his mother’s good vase, he finds a magic pebble that grants everything he wishes. However, when he notices a lion, he quickly turns into a rock because he has no other option to think out of of how to hide himself or making the lion disappear, which turns him into a rock. Parents worry for him and Sylvester cries himself to sleep with only tiny bits of grass to eat. Year after year after year passes until suddenly they are turned into rocks upon coming across the magic pebble. After another year goes by, a squirrel wishes that the rocks could come to life and talk, which grants the mother and father out, but not Sylvester. Sylvester, upon waking up, says that he will always be careful of what he wishes for, which brings him out of the rock. His family goes home, where they store the magic pebble in the special artifact collection.
- Joey’s pouch: a frustrated. Joey has no time to play with his friends and complains over having to sleep in his pouch. Deciding that looking for another pouch will be the best for him, he runs away from home. I worry Joey’s pants try to look for him, but other animals want to occupy the pouch. Encounter troubles away from home and fall from pelicans mouse into the water, and nearly escapes from a cougar, after trying to go to sleep in its cave, thinking it’s a pouch. That night, he hides a washing line and cries himself to sleep. The next morning, he found by a nearby man who brings it to a nearby woman who uses it to complete her Mail collection. Joey escapes from the pouch and, end up getting caught in an old dress, which floats straight to his mother. His mother and father happily we night with him and Joey becomes happy, so having enough time to play with his friends whenever he wants.
- The wolf grandmother: a woman goes to visit their grandmother, bringing her children along. On the way, a wolf foolishly pretends to be the grandmother. The kids invite the wolf inside. However, the wolf proves to be evil, so Shang, the youngest child and bravest, makes a plan for him to climb a tree to get the ginkgo nuts. It works all too well, and the wolf falls down and has crushed by the tree. Legends says that the children had made it home, or they had probably told everyone about the wolf and made sure that the wolf were away from them at all times.
- The panther who made noodles: a young panther, decides to make noodles for the first time. After making them, they turn into a success. Anthony, a troublesome lemur, wants to eat the noodles, but he uses the magic words incorrectly, and makes everything wrong. The town almost becomes buried by the noodles, and eventually, they all get rid of the noodles, pushing them down a cliff. The panther is devastated and her days looking for more pasta, feeling bad, gets the big pasta and eat it all, which makes the panther happy that he had changed his ways and invites him to be the next official cook, as she reveals that she has been the most wonderful cook that had made noodles for years.
- The wombat that sprouted wings: a wombat wants wings like the other birds, and it goes to a magic pond. When an awakens the next morning, it has sprouted wings like the other birds. In reality, he gathered all of the birds feathers. He’s made the first official bird and given a metal, but when the wind starts to blow, it blows all of his feathers off. The birds all beat him up or having taken all their feathers and take them back, and the injured and crying wombat curses the wind. But the wind tells him to not blame him, blame himself, because alas, the truth must come out.
- The tale of the sun that had come :a chipmunk wishes for the sum to come up, as it is always dark in the forest. A Gruffy bear does not agree, as he is the rule of all the animals. Old king Mallard says to him that not all animals can be wise, it all depends on the little chipmunk. The bear does not agree, so the chipmunk gather the animals to wait till the sun comes up. The animals believe a light, the bear disagrees. The chipmunk invites the animals on an outing again to see the sun, and teases the bear. The bear threatens to eat the chipmunk, and the chipmunk agrees. But he breaks his promise and runs away back to his grandmother, but loses all of his tail fur because the bear scratched him so hard. the bear guard of the chipmunks providing a long lecture, and the next morning, the sun does come up. The chipmunk, though, lids that maybe he is not wise, but old king Mallard says to Gretchen that maybe all animals can be wise after all.
- The fox that walked onto 2 feet: in a prologue to the next chapter, Gretchen call out the animals for stealing the spot from him and fight over the book, and the dog, frustrated, accidentally causes him to fall and injure himself. While he goes to heal, his trusted advisor, Mr. Fox, says that he will try his best to handle the show at cheer up the animals, saying that this is a story how he walked onto feet. After Jupiter gave him a gift as a child, he began walking on 2 feet everywhere. However, to depend on his size, one day, he prove that he could walk and talk, gaming, the animals trust. Till the end, Mr. Fox had been used as a wise advisor and trickery , well done, but realized that they are on the next page and warn Mr. Fox not to spoil the book.
- Dr. De Soto: a mouse dentist is known for caring everyone toothaches. That is, until a fox comes in with a toothache. It is really bad, and is painful one removed. In order to help him, the dentist tricks him into uncurl, his tongue, and popping it back-and-forth. The fox, however, was just using the toothache as a way for the mouse to remove the tooth so she can get bucks. this goes on all too well until the foxes toothache is finally removed, and despite the pain being gone, he walks when he walks around, the toothache was actually pretty sour, and the lemon spray was actually sour when it was put in it.
- The mouse that invited a lion: a mouse and a cat, where once very good pals instead of enemies. One day, a lion came and said that he will invite guest as a way to introduce his welcome. However, he invites doesn’t seem to be pleasing, and during a carnival, he scared off with the butter churn. It is an until the mouse is capable of biting bites the lion everywhere with the help from his mouse cousins. The terrified lion runs away, and Mr. Fox, commenting on the tail, says: “What a lovely tail we weave.”
- The weasel that faked to get milk: a weasel has a series appetite from milk, so he goes into a farm and drinks a milk pail. However, he gets sick, so the farmer feeds him with more milk. But when he realizes of the weasels deception, he puts castor oil and molasses into the milk, causing the fox to get even more sick. The panther from the earlier story heals him by allowing Anthony to feed him with pasta, and then sent to him that the next time he does a deception, they will put molasses back into the pot.
- The hound that knew how to walk: a hound is not used to walking for the first time. Mr. Fox appears an offers to teach him how to walk. He helps the hound walk onto 2 feet, then 4 feet. Finally, the hound is capable of walking onto 2 feet, that doesn’t recognize of where he is going until he gets his foot bitten by a crab. The hound is soon told by Mr. Fox that walking on 2 feet is not easy for him, even for most dogs, so the hound we likely goes back to walking on 4 feet.
- Welcome to crab Island: a crab mix, an island filled with his crab after getting frustrated with the life under the sea. At first, they are happy with the island, but then, porpoises and herons arrive and start eating all the crabs. The crabs family barely make it back to the ocean, and the crab decides that staying in the ocean is where they are safe, and from now on, they make life under the sea more better.
- Once a mouse….: In the final classic tale, a stubborn tiger, refuses to let anyone in this cave. A hermit begs for shelter from the cold, but the tiger refuses. He decides to teach him a lesson by turning him into a mouse, which he gets chased into a cat. He gets turned into a cat, but as soon chased by a dog. He is turned into a crow, but is then chased by a hunter. He is turned into a hunter, but he soon chased by a fox. He turned into a fox and turns into a monkey and then an ape. Then he is turned back into a mouse, and the hermit, who has turned into a beautiful woman, tell him that he must take care of himself.
At the end of the book, Mr. Fox, thanks, the readers for reading, and his son, Freddie Fox, calls him out for not inviting him. Apologizing, Mr. Fox says that he can read the book copy that he got him. , Freddy Fox his father leaves. The animals from the previous book say goodbye, but then lion, with a toothache and a taste for milk and pasta chases away, Mr. Fox. He tears off the costume, as a Gretchen appears and calls out the lion. He said thanks, the viewers for reading the book, and says they had a wonderful weave time.
