Dessy is known as a singer who is able to sing with a high-pitched technique a la Mariah Carey (whistle register), heard in the Koes Plus cover song, "Why Do You Love Me" on the album Mimpi Sedih (1996).
Despite having above average vocal technique, Desy's career actually shone brighter in Malaysia than in her native country, Indonesia.
