Dobermann with traditional coloring

Dobermann or Doberman Pinscher is a medium/-largedog breed. It was started in the 19th century. It is named after Friedrich Louis Dobermann (1834-1894), one of the first people to breed these dogs. When he started the breeding process, he took brave dogs that showed little fear. The result was a working dog breed. Even shortly after the start, such dogs were used by police forces or as guard dogs. Today, they are also used as search and rescue dogs or as guide dogs for blind people.

Dobermanns are from 64 to 72 centimetres (25 to 28 in) tall. They are up to 45 kilograms (99 lb) in weight. Dobermann dogs can be aggressive, and in certain countries or territories a permit is needed to own or breed them.
