In November 2019, Cherry was fired by Sportsnet from Hockey Night in Canada for comments that appeared to suggest Canadian immigrants did not adequately show support for Canadian veterans by purchasing a poppy on Remembrance Day,[4] though he later clarified he was referring to all Canadians.[5]
