Ke Huy Quan (born August 20, 1971) is a Vietnamese-American actor, stunt choreographer and former child actor. In 2023, he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022).

Early life

Quan Kế Huy was born in August 20, 1970 in Saigon, South Vietnam.[3] Three years after the end of the Vietnam War in 1975, Quan left Vietnam with his family.[4] Some of his family fled to Hong Kong, while Quan's mother and three other siblings went to Malaysia.[5] After staying at a refugee camp in Hong Kong, Quan's entire family were allowed to enter the United States as part of the Refugee Admissions Program in 1979.[6] Quan grew up in California.[7]

Career

In the 1980s, he appeared in several movies. His best known roles were as Short Round in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom (1984) and Data in The Goonies (1985). After he stopped acting, he worked as a stunt coordinator on many movies, for example X-Men.

He became well known for his role in the 2022 movie Everything Everywhere All at Once, which won him multiple awards such as the Golden Globe Award, Screen Actors Guild Award and the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor the following year. He is the first Vietnam-born actor to win an Academy Award.[8]

In September 2022, Quan was announced to have joined the cast for the second season of the Marvel Cinematic Universe series Loki for Disney+. For this role, he received a Critics' Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series nomination.[9][10]

In June 2023, it was announced that he had been invited to join the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences as an actor.[11]

In December 2023, he joined the voice cast for Kung Fu Panda 4.[12]

Personal life

Quan is married to Echo Quan, who was the on-set translator for Everything Everywhere All at Once.[13]
