National Anthem of the Republic of China
The National Anthem of the Republic of China is the national anthem of the Republic of China. It is about how the Three Principles of the People can be used to achieve the dreams and hopes of the Chinese people.[Note 1]
On July 16, 1924, Sun Yat-sen wrote the words of the song for his speech at the opening ceremony of the Whampoa Military Academy. The melody was written by Ch'eng Mao-yün, which won a competition to write the music for the words. The song became the National Anthem of the Republic of China officially in 1943.
- Informally, the song is sometimes known as "San Min Chu-i" or "Three Principles of the People" from its opening line, but this is never used in formal or official occasions.
