Ric Ocasek
Richard Theodore Otcasek (March 23, 1944 – September 15, 2019), known as Ric Ocasek (/oʊˈkæsɛk/), was an American singer-songwriter, musician, record producer and painter He was best known as the lead vocalist, rhythm guitarist and primary lyricist for the rock band the Cars. His best known songs were "Just What I Needed", "My Best Friend's Girl", "You Might Think" and "Drive", the first and latter on which bandmate Ben Orr sang lead vocals. Ocasek was born in Baltimore, Maryland and raised in Cleveland, Ohio.
In 2018, Ocasek was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Cars.[1] Unlike most bands that made it big, The Cars did not do recreational or illicit drug use. The Cars were known to drink and stay up late and record most of their music throughout the night hours.
Ocasek was found dead in his New York City apartment on September 15, 2019 from hypertension and heart disease at the age of 75.[2]
