It is also known as Rua das Flores ("Flower Street"), because of the many pots with flowers decorating the street. In 1972, it was closed to vehicles, and only people are allowed in it, making it one of the first pedestrian streets (streets for people) in Brazil. The street has many restaurants and shops and many historic buildings.
