Steven Sample
Steven Browning Sample (November 29, 1940 – March 29, 2016)[1][2] was the 10th president of the University of Southern California (USC).[3] He became president in 1991 and was succeeded by C.L. Max Nikias on August 3, 2010.[4]

Before he was president at USC, he held the same position at the University at Buffalo (UB) in the State University of New York (SUNY) system from 1982 to 1991.[1] He was succeeded by William R. Greiner.[1]
Personal life and death
In 2001, Sample was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, but said he still felt able to serve as president of USC.[5] On March 29, 2016, Sample died at the age of 75.[6] He had lived in San Marino, California.
