Part of PRC?

Is Taiwan province of the PRC or is it a country on its own? I have heard of Taiwan being called "Republic of China" while mainland is "People's Republic of China." If Taiwan is its own nation aand not part of mainland China, please remove the category "Provinces of China." Alexhl (talk) 09:39, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

This article is not about the Republic of China, but the island of Taiwan, and it mentions its political situation. As the article says "Taiwan" is a province of the RoC and of the PRC. --Bärliner 14:33, 20 January 2008 (UTC)
Actually, Taiwan is both part of PRC, and seperate to it.
Taiwan itself regards itself as separate.
However, China has stated clearly that it acknowledges it entirely as part of China.
However, although China says that Taiwan is part of China, it says that there are two parts of China, PRC and ROC.
China says that PRC is mainland China, while ROC is HongKong, Taiwan, and other places.
China says there are some differences in the rules for the PRC and ROC.
However, it says that they are all still part of China.
But Taiwan says that they are separate.
Both views should be included.
Also, it should be included that China does not have relations with another country if they say that Taiwan is separate to China.
So basically, if England said to Taiwan that it acknowledged it as being separate to China, China would stop its relations with England.
This is because it regards Taiwan as a province which is trying to break away.
So basically, countries have had to choose whether to have dipolomatic relations with either PRC or ROC, because the PRC believes that the ROC is part of it anyway.
Most people have chosen to have ties with PRC instead of ROC, because PRC is so much bigger and has more trade.
That means that only a few countries believe Taiwan is a separate country, while most of them say it is part of China. Benniguy talkchanges 14:42, 20 January 2008 (UTC)

I am Chinese. As far as I know, most of the countries agree that Taiwan isn't a country, Taiwan is a part of China! Why saying that 'Taiwan is an island country in the western Pacific and east of mainland China'? It is wrong.Rick onWiki (talk) 13:30, 21 May 2010 (UTC)

Nationalist government

The "Nationalist Government of the Republic of China"(中華民國國民政府) is the government of the Republic of China between 1927 and 1948, the government after 1948 is called "Government of the Republic of China"(中華民國政府).--27.247.65.40 (talk) 15:29, 15 February 2018 (UTC)

Merge proposal

The Republic of China is merely the official name for Taiwan. Seeing as how both terms refer to the same land area, there is zero need to have both articles be independent of each other. jackchango talk 01:40, 20 March 2020 (UTC)

  • @Jackchango: I would support the merge of Republic of China into Taiwan if we can keep People's Republic of China separate from China. The China article can consist of culture and history up until the split. I am willing to do the merging and reorganization.Naddruf (talk) 17:30, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
    • @Naddruf: Why do you wish to keep People's Republic of China separate from China? My interpretation is that the former details the state whereas the latter focuses more on the general region. Would overlapping articles like such need to exist? I would rather merge China (preferable name for the state article) with East Asian cultural sphere. jackchango talk 00:28, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
      • @Jackchango: Do you still want these articles merged? I think East Asian cultural sphere, which includes Vietnam, Korea, and Japan, is different from the historical China, which had many dynasties, and didn't include those areas. I still don't think China and People's Republic of China should be merged. Naddruf (talk) 23:31, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
        • @Naddruf: I am ultimately pretty hesitant on the existence of the China article, though I disagree with my former self in saying that it should be merged with East Asian cultural sphere. While this distinction should definitely be made, I am not too sure as to how standalone an article on the general region could be, and most information is likely to also be at People's Republic of China or relative article. Not many Wikipedias have separate articles detailing both, either. jackchango talk 16:24, 11 September 2020 (UTC)
  • I believe originally this page was about the island as opposed to the country but it doesn't look like that at all now. I would suggest that this merge isn't controversial. Just redirect the other page here and if anyone wants to take care of merging the content then do it. -Djsasso (talk) 17:59, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
    • Please don't redirect now. I will do the merge if nobody disagrees.Naddruf (talk) 18:06, 19 May 2020 (UTC)
  • Taiwan can be renamed to Geography of Taiwan. Jakkco1 (talk) 05:32, 30 May 2020 (UTC)
