2021 European floods
The 2021 European floods are a series of ongoing severe floods which began on 12 July 2021. They have affected several river basins. It started in the United Kingdom before spreading into Austria, Belgium, Croatia, the Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Romania and Switzerland.[1] Germany was affected the hardest where at least 103 people died.[2] 200,000 properties were left without power.[2][3]
Rainfall extremes measured during the floods
On 14 July 2021, Belgium experienced its wettest day on record. 179 millimeters was measured in Stavelot.[4]
Also Luxembourg experienced a 24-hour rainfall record, in Godbrange near Junglinster 106 millimeters was measured.[5] In Luxembourg City the rainfall record took place too, 77 millimeters on 14 July 2021.[6]
The German city of Cologne also experienced record rainfall, on 14 July 2021, 154 millimeters was measured there.[7]
