Demechi

Demechi (Ukrainian: Демечі; Hungarian: Dimicső; Rusyn: Демичі) is a village in the Uzhhorodskyi Raion in the Zakarpattia Oblast in western Ukraine. Demechi is 3 km south-southeast of Uzhhorod.

History

The village was set up by the Czechoslovak government after the Treaty of Trianon to reduce the local Hungarian population. They discovered a spring with healing water near the village, where they built a bath.

From 1938 to 1944, it was part of Hungary again. In 1945, the village became part of the Soviet Union. Since 1991, it has been part of Ukraine.

After 1991, the spa went out of business.

Population

According to the 2001 census, 399 people lived in Demechi.[1]
