Emperor and Autocrat of the Romans
Emperor and Autocrat of the Romans was a title given to Byzantine emperors. However, they had different titles. Every emperor before Heraclius was officially Augustus, while after him, became Basileus, a Greek title. Near the end of the empire, Autocrat, or Autokrator, became used. The first Emperor and Autocrat of the Romans was Constantine the Great, who founded the Eastern Roman Empire. The last Emperor and Autocrat of the Romans was Constantine XI Palaiologos, who died in the Fall of Constantinople. The Emperor and Autocrats of the Romans usually lived in the Great Palace or Blachernae Palace.
