MTV (originally an acronym for Music Television until 2010) is an American cable television network. They are based in New York City. The channel launched on August 1, 1981.[1] They used to only show music videos.[2] However they mostly show reality shows like Ridiculous nowadays. The first music video shown on MTV was Video Killed the Radio Star by The Buggles. Today, the channel shows many different television programs aimed at adolescents and young adults.
