Mikaela Shiffrin


Mikaela Pauline Shiffrin (born March 13, 1995) is an American skier. Her first time at the Winter Olympic Games was during the 2014 Winter Olympics at Sochi, Russia.[1] In those games, she won a gold medal in the Slalom at an age of 18 years and 345 days. Shiffrin is the youngest gold medalist in the Slalon in Olympic history.[2] Before the 2014 Olympics, Mikaela had competed in other national and international competitions.

Early life

Mikaela Shiffrin was born on March 13, 1995 in Vail, Colorado.[3] Her father, Jeff, skied at Dartmouth College.[4] Her mother, Eileen, came from a Massachusetts family who loved skiing.[4] She has an older brother named Taylor who is also a skier at the University of Denver.[4] When Mikaela was eight her family moved to New Hampshire. Her father got a job at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

Career

Shiffrin competed in her first international competition at age fifteen.[5] Later that year she joined another international competition and got a gold medal in slalom.[5] By the end of the season she had won four World Cup competitions as well as a slalom title. This made her the youngest person to win a World Cup title.[5] In addition to her 2014 Olympic gold medal in the slalom, Shiffrin won a gold medal in the 2018 Olympics in the Giant slalom. She also won a silver medal in the Combined competition at the 2018 Olympics. On the World Cup circuit, Shiffrin has achieved 108 victories, which is the most of any alpine skier in history, man or woman.[6] At the 2026 Winter Olympics, Shiffrin won her second gold medal in the slalom.[7]

Personal life

In 2021, Shiffrin started dating Norwegian ski racer Aleksander Aamodt Kilde.[8] On April 4, 2024, Kilde and Shiffrin said they were engaged.[9]
