Reculver

Reculver is a small coastal town in Kent, South East England near Herne Bay and a few miles north of Canterbury. Its main features are the ruins of a Roman fort, a ruined medieval church which is constantly threatened by coastal erosion.

The redundant vicarage at Reculver in use as a temporary replacement for the Hoy and Anchor Inn, in 1809:[5] the original inn stood a short distance north of the church and west of the Roman fort.

The Domesday Book entry for Reculver, given here as "Roculf", in 1086: the entry below it, headed "Nortone", is for "Herne ... under another name".[6]
