James Richard "Rick" Perry (born March 4, 1950) is the Governor of the US state of Texas. He is a Republican. He became governor when George W. Bush became President, and has been elected three more times. Out of all the governors in the United States, Perry has been governor for the longest time (13 years). Perry grew up in West Texas and went to Texas A&M University. Before he was a politician, he was a farmer and a pilot. Before being Governor, he was a State Legislature, State Agricultural Commissioner, and Lieutenant Governor.

Perry used to be a Methodist, but now attends an Evangelical "megachurch". Perry is also an Eagle Scout.

Perry was also running for President of the United States in the 2012 Republican primaries.[2] He was one of the last candidates to enter the race. He was a frontrunner for the nomination during the first month of his campaign, but he did not do well in many of the debates. On January 19, 2012, Perry withdrew his campaign and endorsed Newt Gingrich.
