Sears, Roebuck and Company, usually called Sears, is a department store chain with about 600 stores in the United States. The first store opened in 1906. It was the biggest retailer in the country until Walmart had more sales in October 1989.[3]

Sears had to close all 140 of its stores in Canada in 2017.[4] Its 75 stores in Mexico have been operated by Grupo Carso since 1997.[5]

Sears filed for bankruptcy on October 15, 2018.[6]
