Arrondissement of Lille

The arrondissement of Lille is an arrondissement of France, in the Nord department, Hauts-de-France region. Its capital, and prefecture of the department, is the city of Lille.

History

When the Nord department was created on 1790, the arrondissement of Lille was part of that original department.[1]

Geography

The arrondissement of Lille is one of the central arrondissement of the Nord department. It borders with Belgium to the north and east, the Douai arrondissement to the southeast, the Pas-de-Calais department to the south and west, and the Dunkirk arrondissement to the northwest.

The arrondissement of Lille has an area of 879.5 km2 (339.6 sq mi).[2] It has a population of 1,232,513 inhabitants for a population density of 1,401.4 inhabitants/km2.[3]
