Biography
Suzuki was born in Hitachi on June 5, 1976. After graduating from Hitachi Technical High School, he joined J1 League club Kashima Antlers in 1995. He played for the club until 2005. The club won the champions in 1996, 1998, 2000 and 2001. In 2000, the club won all three major title in Japan; J1 League, J.League Cup and Emperor's Cup. He also played in Brazil and Belgium on loan. From 2006, he played for several clubs; e.g. Red Star Belgrade, Portland Timbers and Mito HollyHock. He retired end of 2015 season at the age of 39.
On April 25, 2001, Suzuki debuted for the Japan national team against Spain. He played all four of Japan's games at the 2002 World Cup on home soil, starting the first three and scoring in the 2–2 tie against Belgium; Japan were eliminated in the round of 16 following a 1–0 defeat to Turkey. He was also part of the Japanese team which won the 2004 Asian Cup. He played 55 games and scored 11 goals for Japan until 2005.
