Bourg-en-Bresse is a commune in the Ain department, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in east France. It is the prefecture of the department and the capital of the arrondissement of Bourg-en-Bresse.

Geography

Bourg-en-Bresse is located at the western base of the Jura Mountains, on the left bank of the Reyssouze river, a tributary of the Saône.

The commune has an area of 23.9 km2 (9.2 sq mi).[1] Its average altitude is 247 m (810 ft); at the city hall, the altitude is 230 m (750 ft).[2]

  • Bourg-en-Bresse-2 formed by 3 communes and part of Bourg-en-Bresse, with 28,101 inhabitants (2014).
