Venue
The final will be played in the Lusail Iconic Stadium in Lusail, which is around 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) north of the city centre of Doha.[3] The stadium was planned to host the final as part of Qatar's World Cup bid,[4] and was confirmed as the final venue on 15 July 2020.[5] Nine other matches, six group stage and three other knockout games will also be played at the stadium.[6]
The Lusail Iconic Stadium, owned by the Qatar Football Association, was built because of Qatar's winning bid for the World Cup. The stadium was designed by British firm Foster + Partners and Populous,[7] supported by MANICA Architecture.[8] The stadium will be cooled using solar power and will have a zero carbon footprint.[9] Construction started in April 2017,[10] and was supposed to finish in 2020. But, the construction of the stadium was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and ended up finishing in November 2021.[11] There still has not been a game played in the stadium.[12]
