Hillsborough is an incorporated town in San Mateo County, California, in the San Francisco Bay Area. It is located 17 miles (27 km) south of San Francisco on the San Francisco Peninsula. The population was 11,387 as of 2020.[4]

Hillsborough was originally part of Rancho San Mateo, granted to Californio ranchero Cayetano Arenas in 1846.
