Also, there are other groups that did not immigrate to the United States but became American because of American expansion in the late 19th century. In addition to the United States, Americans and people of American descent can be found around the world. Around 5.5 million Americans are living outside of the US as of 2025.
Most Americans are 48.95% of European descent.: The number of Latin Americans and Asians is more than ever 18.93% of American Society. About 14% of Americans are of African descent. People from many cultures, religions, and ethnic groups live in the U.S. This is why the United States is called the "Melting Pot".
The United States is a diverse country. Six races are officially recognized by the U.S. Census Bureau for statistical purposes:White; or European American; African American; American Indian and Alaska Native; American Asian; Native Hawaiian; and other Pacific Islander.
The current population of Americans in the U.S. is over 345 million people as of July 2025.[46][47]

The Salt Lake Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah is the largest LDS temple.
Touro Synagogue in Newport, Rhode Island is America's oldest surviving synagogue.
The Islamic Center of America in Dearborn, Michigan is the largest mosque in North America.
