History

The Australia National Olympic Committee was formed in 1895. It was recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1895.[4]

Afghanistan's team first competed at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens.[1]

Australia has sent athletes to almost all of the modern Olympic Games. Australia has competed in every Summer Olympic Games, and most Winter Olympic Games.

In 1908 and 1912, Australia competed with New Zealand under the name Australasia.[5]

Host country

Cairns in Queensland was the beginning of the 1956 Olympic torch relay

Australia has hosted the Olympics twice:

The 1956 Summer Olympics were at Melbourne in Victoria.[6]

The 2000 Summer Olympics were at Sydney in New South Wales.[7]
