Georgia was first at the Olympic Games as an independent nation in 1994. They have been in every Summer Olympic Games and Winter Olympic Games since then.

Previously, Georgian athletes were part of the Soviet Union at the Olympics from 1952 to 1988. In 1992 they were part of the Unified Team.

The Georgian National Olympic Committee was formed in 1989 and recognized by the International Olympic Committee in 1993.
